I walk into a Disney movie, I always walk out on a sniffling tear stained crying jag, with my heart on my sleeve.
They melt me. Put me in a Disney remake with my 9 year old daughter, count me done. Any hard armor I may have sported for the day, melts like Graeters on a humid Cincy eve and I’m reduced to my true state, masked by my grown up exterior…
A little girl who just wants her prince to show her a “whole new world”.
While the movie Aladdin is defiantly a bit of a cheese fest, it’s a cheese fest with heart. And whole hearted living is what I’m here for.
I was fine, perfectly fine until the song “A whole new world”. Tears…I hurriedly began looking for the butter stained napkins to catch the emotion from my eyes, then remembered…It’s a dark theatre…no one can see, I’m free to remember…that’s how it is…love. It’s a whole new world.
Don’t you remember? When you fell in love, the free wheeling excitement of it. It was if the sky was made of diamonds, and every day a new adventure. The mudane was suddenly magical, a wonder. That’s what it does, it opens your eyes up to the beauty of what’s around you. Anything and everything seems possible.
I think we humans are supposed to stay there in that place.
And I don’t think that place is relegated to one specific person or event. I think love is all around us and it’s our job to tap in. Falling in love puts you on the path, but it’s not that person per se. They point the way. As much as I love a good Disney ending, that’s where they trip us up.
Love isn’t the destination…it’s the path we walk.
Love is a daily choice, to look for that magic in the other person, in your home, in everything around you. You choose it. You choose the magic even when you can’t see it. You choose it when nothing makes sense, you choose it anyway. Your heart and you choose who you love and what you love. Every day we get to start fresh…with a whole new world…of love for me and for you.
Shining, shimmering splendid
Tell me, princess, now when did
You last let your heart decide?
Take you wonder by wonder
Over sideways and under
On a magic carpet ride
A new fantastic point of view
No one to tell us no
Or where to go
Or say we’re only dreaming”
